recyclables destined for domestic use and overseas markets.

Approximately 60% of the metals and alloys produced in North America are made from nonferrous scrap.
Recycled aluminum saves the U.S. 95% of the energy that would have been needed to make new aluminum from
ore; recycled iron and steel result in energy savings of 74%; recycled copper, 85%; recycled paper, 64%;
and recycled plastic, more than 80%, all from the materials that would otherwise be destined for landfills.
